ADVANCED JOBS AND HOW THEY WORK:
Once you pick jobs for your party, you need a Work Permit to change again. To upgrade from basic to advanced, you need an Adv. Work Permit. To change from one advanced job to another, you can use a regular Work Permit.
There are 4 Advanced Work Permits and 8 regular Work Permits.
If your upgrade isn't available to the party member change to an eligible job and then use a regular Work Permit to change to the advanced job.
Here is a basic rundown of the advanced jobs:
Ninja: Superior stats to both Warrior and Samurai in every category. Ninja is the only advanced job that can use the Tokugawa Armor and Masamune.
Fencer: Same melee stats as a Samurai and have all of the Magician spells and many of the Monk spells. Notably, they don't have Bless Barrier, Revive All, or Heal All, which are useful against the last few bosses.
Holy Knight: These have the same melee stats as a Warrior, some of the Magician Spells, and all of the Monk spells, except for Full Heal.
Sage: This useful job has every spell in the game and a lot of MP. Sage is the only advanced job that can equip the Dagger of Light and Miracle Robe.
I didn't have much luck with Fencers. My party against the Demon Lord was either a Ninja, Two Holy Knights, and a Sage, or two Ninjas, a Holy Knight, and a Sage.

Once a permit is used, it's gone.

Thank you for that! I get it now. so yea can you say pros and cons to having...
a) 2 ninjas, 1 holy knight
b) 2 holy nights, 1 ninja
In rpgs I usually have 2 damage dealers, a tank/buffer, and a healer. That would suggest going with a) I guess

A Holy Knight IS a fighter: it has the strength, guard, and agility of a Warrior and the spells of a Monk, which makes for a potent Fighter/Healer. The reason I use a Ninja and Sage is because it allows the team to use the Tokugawa Armor, Masamune, and Miracle Robe.

But I can still use holy knight to buff right? Or are you're examples 3 damage dealers + healer/buffer.
Since the game says the party leader (Alan) will be the Target of most attacks thats why I chose warrior to make him a tank.
Out of curiosity if that special equipment didn't exist what would you choose as party and why

I know I want a sage(lillis) and ninja(chaz) for the equipment, and want Alan to be a holy knight with all hero equipment. I just can't decide on the last one(Sammy). What about an extra sage? When buffs run out Sony I need a backup for that? Unless a holy knight knows all the buff spells?

Hi-ho,
I just finished the game (100% items). The final boss took 20 turns with ninja, holy knight, fencer and sage. I didn t bother purchase the very expensive shields and helms since the extra def seems negligible for the cost. Did anyone bought them ? Besides, the c*a*i*y card can be sold after use.
Btw, the fencer can be equipped with Tokogawa Armor and Masamune, but my fencer was not very useful against Qu*****tl.

I forgot go mention my chars were lvl 52 or 53 with best gear.
The only damage dealer was the ninja, while the 3 others were casting Curtain, Bless and Magic barrier, Heal All, and naturally High tension on the ninja. That s a rather safe technique I guess, because noone died in the party.

And that only took 20 turns lol? Usually the safe 1 dd strat on rpgs takes ages and is an mp killer/waster lol. Well done

I just beat the game with ninja-ninja-sage-sage lvl 45 all. I didn't count how many turns it took but it was a pretty long time. Heal-all ftw...
